Steve Johnson has over 30 years’ experience across social services, governance, education, and executive leadership in Aotearoa New Zealand and internationally. He currently serves as Kaiwhakahaere Matua Ratonga Ora (General Manager – Social Services) for Toa – Te Rōpū Āwhina at Te Rūnanga o Toa Rangatira, where he provides strategic oversight of kaupapa Māori social services focused on whānau wellbeing. At Te Rūnanga o Toa Rangatira, Steve has contributed significantly to the development and delivery of integrated social services for whānau, iwi, and hāpori.
His work emphasises the importance of culturally responsive practice, organisational accountability and addressing structural inequities. As a Trustee at Kaibosh, Steve brings governance capability, strategic leadership and systems thinking experience along with a kaupapa Māori perspective and a deep understanding of the social determinants of wellbeing, including food security and poverty reduction.
