Kaibosh plays a vital role in advocacy by bringing frontline experience into national conversations about food security and food waste.
We are an active founding member of the Aotearoa Food Rescue Alliance (AFRA) and work alongside other national partners including Kore Hiakai, The Salvation Army, Eat New Zealand and Champions 12.3. Locally in Te Upoko o te Ika / Greater Wellington Region, we collaborate with iwi and hapu, community partners and stakeholders.
Through these relationships, we advocate for system-level change – recognising that while community efforts are vital, charities alone cannot carry the weight of systemic failure.

Kaibosh has signed the Vote for Kai open letter asking every political party in 2026: what will you do for food in Aotearoa?
Too many children go to school hungry, too many people are skipping meals because the money runs out before the week does, and too many of us are choosing between nutritious food, rent, power, healthcare and fuel.
Led by Eat New Zealand, Vote for Kai is a collective call on all political parties standing in the 2026 national election to make food a genuine political priority – not an afterthought.

We’re asking for a long-term plan for food security, affordable healthy kai for everyone, a fair go for local growers and producers, and a food system grounded in Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Kai Ora Collective: your local co-op for affordable healthy produce.
Kai Ora Collective (formerly the Wellington Region Fruit & Vege Co-ops) runs on a simple idea: pool buying power, cut out the markup and get fresh produce to whānau across the greater Wellington region – including the Wairarapa – for a fraction of supermarket prices. Every week, volunteers pack and distribute fruit and vege packs through packing hubs and pick-up points, with online ordering now available too.
Kaibosh is proud to partner with Kai Ora Collective to support them with regional transport and access for regional growers, along with helping them at the central Pōneke packing hub.

Get into the māra & meet your community.
Getting into the garden to grow food is a direct, hands-on way to strengthen local food resilience – growing and sharing kai close to home, rather than relying on food that’s travelled a long way (and wasted a lot of energy) to get to your plate.
Community gardens (māra kai) are some of our best-kept secrets – pocket-sized plots and rambling urban farms tucked into neighbourhoods across the region, where locals come together to grow, share and learn.
Upper Hutt has several local groups with green thumbs, Wellington has many community gardens large and small with Kaicycle Urban Farm offering regular volunteering opportunities. Keep a look out through your local community Facebook pages.

Seeds to Feeds harnesses the power of local food experiences to connect people, to each other, themselves, and the places they call home. From seed and seedling swaps, to harvest and preserving workshops and community feast events in later summer and autumn – there is something for everyone.
