This weekend, Wellington food rescue organisation Kaibosh kicks off Make a Meal in May, its annual fundraising appeal. The idea is simple – supporters make a meal with friends at home or work and donate what they would have spent on a meal out to Kaibosh.

Kaibosh General Manager Matt Dagger says “People often ask how they can support Kaibosh’s work, and during May we’re happy to say that it’s as simple as getting your friends together for a meal.”

Make a Meal in May can be adapted to suit individual supporters, workplaces or schools, with meals ranging from shared morning teas to elaborate dinners or relaxed weekend brunches.

Local businesses have also got behind the cause, with House of Dumplings donating $1 from every meal pack sold at their Taranaki Street shop from Monday 2 May to Saturday 7 May, and La Boca Loca offering a competition prize of a specially cooked Mexican meal for the winner and three friends.

“Make a Meal in May is a fun and easy way to spend time together while also making a real difference to people in our community who are struggling to make ends meet,” said Matt.

For every $20 Kaibosh receives, they can provide the equivalent of 33 meals to those in our community who need it most. Kaibosh currently rescues more than 10 tonnes of quality surplus food each month, providing this to 45 community groups supporting people in need in Wellington and the Hutt Valley. They provide this service at no cost to food donors or community groups.
