Calling Pōneke foodies! Kaibosh is hosting a community cooking workshop with a difference – a daytime Disco Soup during the opening weekend of Visa Wellington On A Plate. The pop-up event runs 11am – 2pm on 4 August at our food rescue warehouse. Cooking will be led by chef Tom Adam of Margot Eatery, MC’d by our ‘Queen Bee’ of Kaibosh and with tunes provided by DJ Danger, DJ Lady Glay and friends.
Disco Soup will bring people together for a hands-on cooking experience as attendees help chop, peel, stir and simmer large pots of soup.
“Come on down for some fun, groove to some great tunes and together we will turn 100s of boxes of rescued veges into big pots of delicious, nutritious soup to feed people in our communities” – says Susie, CE of Kaibosh.
The soup made from rescued vegetables will then be packaged and distributed to Kaibosh’s community partners on Monday, to feed local whānau who are doing it tough this winter. Entry to Disco Soup is by koha donation to the food rescue charity.
“The aim is to cook around 300 servings, which we’ll pass to our community groups who are supporting whānau in need” says Kaibosh’s Kitchen Coordinator, Ange Holtslag.
Ange is handing her Kaibosh apron over to chef Tom Adam for Disco Soup on Sunday, so she can spin vinyl as DJ Danger. Joining her will be another Kaibosh staff member, Glyn, aka Lady Glay.
The Kaibosh team are excited to bring the first official Disco Soup event to Pōneke. The events originated in Europe out of the Slow Food Network, to highlight food insecurity and food waste. Now, hundreds of events pop up on Global Disco Soup Day every April.
If you’re keen to groove, give back to community and learn a few tips from a top local chef – then head to Kaibosh on Hopper Street on 4 August.
Disco dress theme is encouraged, as long as comfy shoes are worn to safely chop and bop at the Kaibosh warehouse!
