There are so many wonderful people who donate their time and energy to keep Kaibosh running, and we’d like to introduce you to some of them.

Fifth in the series is food rescue volunteer Emma! Thanks to Sophie (also a volunteer) for putting this excellent profile together.

How long have you been volunteering with Kaibosh for?

I started in November 2013.

Why did you want to volunteer at Kaibosh?

I’m passionate about people and the environment, and had some time on my hands. So it was a no brainer really! I’m super stoked to be part of such a fantastic organisation.

We hear that outside of Kaibosh you are a counsellor, can you tell us a bit more about that?

I’ve been counselling for about three years, working mainly with women and young people. I share a room with another counsellor on Courtenay Place, and I also volunteer at the Wellington Womens’ Health Collective, Women’s Refuge, and until recently, Evolve.

Where could we find you on the weekend?

In Newtown – at the vege market, browsing the op shops, having a coffee or a beer. Bush walking on one of the fantastic tracks we have around the city or at a bar catching some live music.

What is your favourite Wellington café / restaurant?

I have too many favourites. Baobab and Monterey in Newtown are great. Deluxe. I don’t eat out a lot but when I do, Rasa or a cheap Malaysian. If I’m feeling fancy then Havana!

What is an insider tip you would give to a new Wellingtonian?

Go exploring in the town belt! Beautiful forest is right on our doorstep.

Thanks for your time and the recommendations Emma!
