There are so many wonderful people who donate their time and energy to keep Kaibosh running, and we’d like to introduce you to some of them.

Fourth in the series is food rescue volunteer Rob! Thanks to Sophie (also a volunteer) for putting this excellent profile together.

How long have you been volunteering with Kaibosh for?

I guess I’m a relative newbie and started doing food rescue on Monday nights in September last year.

Why did you want to volunteer at Kaibosh?

I’d heard about Kaibosh through a few people and thought it was a great cause. When you see how much food would go to waste without Kaibosh it reinforces the value and worth of what we do. No one should go hungry in New Zealand and I’m proud to be helping address that – albeit in a small way. Plus, the high-vis vest is cool!!

What keeps you busy outside of Kaibosh?

Teenage kids; surfing; snowboarding; mountain biking; and an old Harley Davidson (you’ll hear it before you see it).

Where could we find you on the weekend?

Surfing Lyall Bay; mountain biking the great trails around Wellington or out on my motorbike. An awesome weekend would see all of these things happen – usually leading to being asleep on the couch.

What is your favourite Wellington café / restaurant / bar?

There are so many choices. My wife and I always enjoy the food at Ortega Fish Shack (Majoribanks Street); or breakfast from the food stalls at the Waitangi Park market on a Sunday; or if we’re out with the teens we like the pizza at Scopa (Cuba Street).

What is an insider tip you would give to a new to Wellingtonian?

If you can, learn to love the wind. It’s invigorating and ensures the air is always fresh.

Tell us about this great photo!

This picture was taken before the ‘The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride’ late last year. The ride is an international event (57 countries took part) to raise awareness and money for prostate cancer research and treatment. Last year more than $1.5 million was raised through this event alone. It’s a great day out with all sorts of classic bikes (and people) in support of a great cause.

Thanks for your time and the recommendations Rob!
