Kaibosh has won two awards at the NZI Sustainable Business Network Awards, taking home the Community Impact Award and the Auckland Council Mega Efficiency Impact Award.
MP Megan Woods of New Zealand Labour Party presenting Ken Allen, Kaibosh Trustee, with the Community Impact Award.
The judges said that, “Kaibosh is tackling the societal challenge that food security presents and has already made a massive impact. Each week Kaibosh provides food for 4,400 people and diverts thousands of tonnes of food from landfill. Kaibosh is challenging the norms around food waste and has the potential to continue to grow.
“A great focus and strong influence on the wider community, Kaibosh is modest and effective. It has identified and is responding to wider systematic issues around food distribution and is changing what is possible and consistently working where it has the power to turn the impossible into the possible.”
Kaibosh General Manager Matt Dagger says that the entire Kaibosh team are extremely honoured and humbled to be the recipients of these awards. “To see our work recognised on a national scale reflects the public awareness of the important issues of food waste and food insecurity that Kaibosh is working to tackle”.
Mr Dagger says that Kaibosh’s work is the result of a deep collaboration between staff, trustees, financial supporters, food donors, charity groups and an incredibly hard working volunteer community who all equally share the credit for Kaibosh’s success at the awards.
The awards cap an exciting few months for Kaibosh following the opening of a second branch in Lower Hutt and the launch of their Food Rescue Heroes supporters’ programme. Kaibosh also recently reached a milestone of one million meals of food provided to Wellingtonians in need.
